WEATHER
Winter - May to September.
Temperatures range from 10 -25°C. The days are generally
cloudless with the evenings and early mornings being cool.
Ocean temperatures - 18 - 21°C.
Summer - October to April.
Temperatures range from 20-38°C. Summer is our main rainfall
period and is humid due to being sub-tropical. Storms are
usually isolated and the days are generally hot. Ocean
temperatures - 21 - 26°C
ACCESS
By Road
Durban - St Lucia 3 hours
Richards Bay - St Lucia 1 hour
Johannesburg - St Lucia 7 hours
The roads in the area are generally very good and self drive
is an easy option.
Hire car companies available from Richards Bay Airport;
Avis, Budget, Hertz, Tempest, National Alamo, Europcar,
Imperial.
By Air
Richards Bay is our closest commercial airport with daily
flights from Johannesburg on SAA Express
(www.saexpress.co.za).
Private Charters can be arranged from Johannesburg or Durban
to an airstrip close to St Lucia with small aircraft.

DIETARY REQUIREMENTS
If you have any dietary requirements, strong food desires or
dislikes please let us know and we will do our best to
accommodate them.
CLOTHING
Casual comfortable riding clothes, short boots, half or full
chaps if you usually wear them.
A long sleeved lightweight shirt as sun protection is useful
on the longer morning rides.
Your riding helmet is compulsory unless your insurance
covers you to ride without a helmet.
A lightweight windbreaker or rainproof jacket is useful all
year.
A fleece or jumper, as it can be cool in the evenings and
mornings even during summer. In winter you will need a warm
jacket.
Comfortable casual clothes to wear around camp.
Sunscreen, mosquito repellent, sun hat, sunglasses.
Swimwear and footwear for the beach.
Camera, video, film etc, extra batteries if required.
Recharging is not possible on safari unless you have a
charger suitable for a car cigarette lighter, use of this is
limited to circumstances.
Binoculars
MALARIA
The area of iSimangaliso Wetland Park that we operate in is
not a malarial area so prophylactics are not required,
however there are mosquitoes. To avoid irritation we suggest
you apply repellent in the early morning and evenings.
POWER and WATER
In camp there is no electricity. We use paraffin lanterns,
candles and rechargeable lanterns for lighting, gas and wood
for cooking and heating the water. Batteries etc cannot be
recharged in camp unless you have a car cigarette lighter
charger for your equipment. Use of this is limited to
circumstances.
All water supplied in camp is safe to drink.
Everything we use on Safari from water and wood to horse
feed and tents is brought in for each safari. Nothing
remains at the campsite between safaris and no wood is
collected in the Park.
RESTRICTIONS
The minimum age for a rider on safari is 12 years old. A
parent or guardian must accompany all children on safari.
The maximum weight for a rider on safari is 95kg. All riders
must be secure in the saddle at any pace as we ride in a big
game area.
Helmets are not supplied but must be worn unless you have
insurance that covers you for this; we suggest all guests
wear helmets while riding.
All guests must have medical evacuation insurance that
covers them for horse riding.
INDEMNITY
All guests are required to sign an indemnity form on arrival
in camp or before commencing safari. All riders must have
valid medical evacuation insurance that covers them for
horse riding. Details must be supplied before they will be
allowed to ride. If you choose to ride without a helmet/hard
hat your insurance must cover you to do so. We advise you
bring your own helmet with you.
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES
We offer to organise additional activities for our guests
with licensed operators who specialise in these areas. These
are additional to the Safari and are not included in our
rates. We do not charge a commission on these and will try
to organise pick up and drop off at no extra charge. Some
activities are time, tide or season dependent and so are not
always available. Possibilities include: Kayaking Trips,
Snorkeling Trips, Whale Watching (June-Nov) Turtle Tours
(Nov-March), Night Drives in The iSimangaliso Wetland Park,
Boat Cruises on the Estuary, Cultural Tours, Bird Watching,
Golf, Bicycle Trips, Guided drives to Umfolozi/Hluhluwe Game
Reserve. |
