Horse Safaris - Daily Rides Daily Horse Riding In St Lucia on the Beach or in the game reserve. When Horse Riding for either novices or 'old hands' there are few places in the world you can ride in an area as unspoiled or beautiful as the iSimangaliso Wetland Park (formerly the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park). From the beach edge of the Indian Ocean across the game reserve to the shores of Lake St Lucia Estuary there are many things to discover on every ride. Beach Rides Horse riding along the beaches of St Lucia We take the horses out along Iphiva Beach at the northern end of St Lucia where there are many kilometers of clean white sand with the Indian Ocean rolling in alongside. During the whale season (May-Nov) we sometimes see humpback whales breaching out in the deeper water beyond the back break on their way to their breeding grounds in Mozambique. Then from Nov to March we search for the tracks of turtles who dug their nests above the high tide mark in the warm sand the night before. The rest of the year we have to make do with dolphins playing in the surf, antelope grazing in the dunes, leopard tracks in the sand or just the amazing views along the beach to the highest forested dunes in Africa. Our beach rides are low tide dependent, this is so we can ride on the hard sand and neither damage anything living in the soft sand nor possibly harm the horses. Beach horse rides - riders must be 8 years of age or over and under 95kg in weight, helmets are supplied. Game Rides Our game rides begin at the Iphiva Campsite in St Lucia and we ride in the Game Reserve on the southern end of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Here we often see zebra, wildebeest, bushbuck, warthog, duiker and impala while riding. This is the perfect start for a novice as it a gentle ride with lots of interest along the way. Game horse rides - riders must be 8 years of age or over and under 95kg in weight, helmets are supplied. Horse rides on the beach or in the game reserve 1 or 2 hour beach rides - only go out at low tide 1 or 2 hour game rides 2½ hour game and beach combination rides (in the game reserve and along the St Lucia beach).
