About Us

Richard Daugherty and Sarah Burrows moved to Zululand from the Okavango Delta in northern Botswana, where they had spent 7 years working in the Safari Industry.
Richard previously came from a business background in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg before giving in to his lifelong passion for the bush and moving to Botswana. As with many people in the bush, Richard has turned his hand to many areas, from running camps and organising special projects to overseeing the building of Wilderness Safaris first premier camp, Mombo. He was General Manager of Elephant Back Safaris before going freelance as a Guide, mostly back at Wilderness Safaris for the Exploration trips and as a Specialist Photographic Guide ( www.rcdaugherty.com ) in all their camps. Richard is very pleased to have returned to his native KwaZulu Natal being able to share with others this beautiful area in such a unique manner.

Sarah is a Chef and was a Food Editor for Vogue Entertaining & Travel, a Condé Nast Magazine in Australia before catching the Africa bug and coming across to train Chefs and Camp Managers for Wilderness Safaris in Namibia and Botswana for two years. She then moved to Elephant Back Safaris with Richard for a year before going freelance herself. In theory freelance, in reality she was back with Wilderness Safaris in a wider variety of positions. Sarah co-ordinated Exploration Safaris, ran camps, did some staff training and Operations managing before giving the bush away and settling in Maun to look after their son, Finn. Zululand has been good with our daughter Neve, who is two, around and Finn already now six.

Sarah has owned and ridden horses all her life and is amazed at her luck to be able to combine this with safaris, the bush, the incredible area of the Wetland Park and the Indian Ocean.
